The 3 Motivations in Life

I’ve been listening to a great book by Michael Neill, called Effortless Success. If you haven’t checked out Audible.com and the audible app for iPhone, I would encourage that you to do so!

I loved his section about the 3 motivations in life:

I want to ~ inspiration

I should ~ rationalization

I need to ~ desperation

It made me re-think certain business ventures, and just daily actions in my life.  WHY am I going to do “this” right now?  Which motivation is behind it? When possible, I now re-evaluate the action, and try to have inspired motivation behind it. I’d be doing the same action, just with different intentions fueling it. What a powerful yet effortless way to approach it, right?

What are the things you think you need to do today? Why?

What are the things you think you should to today? Why?

What are the things you think you want to do today? Why?

Why? – such a powerful question. It can get down to the heart of the matter – a simple 3 letter word.

I often dig with my clients and continue to ask “Why?” to get to the bottom of their goals. Sometimes, when you get to the root of it, you realize that what you thought you wanted isn’t really what you want. Getting to the root of it = less frustration for the client.
